5 Ways Solo Travel Can Help with Self-Love and Confidence

Many people struggle with the idea of solo traveling and jetting off on an adventure to an unfamiliar and new destination. If this sounds like you, here is hoping I can convince you otherwise with 5 reasons solo traveling can be an incredible opportunity to build confidence and self-love.

Learning More About Yourself

Solo traveling often leaves you with plenty of time to get lost in your thoughts, exploring the corners of your mind and all its feelings. Whether you’re sitting on the beach and basking in the sun or sipping a frothy cappuccino outside a cute little café, you can enjoy your own company. It’s a time of self-reflection that allows you to reflect on the things that hold value to you and your life.

Stepping Outside of Your Comfort Zone

Scuba diving, mountain biking, or solo traveling are all thrilling and frightening activities that can help you step outside your comfort zone. However, these may not be your cup of tea, and that’s alright!

Sometimes, it is important to start small and build yourself up to those bigger adventures you may dream of trying. Start with a short trip a few hours from home before flying off to different exotic places in the Caribbean or backpacking through Europe. What matters is setting small goals that enable you to step outside of your comfort zone and feel confident in yourself.

Building Independence

Solo traveling requires independence and trust in yourself to navigate a new place with new people. It may sound nerve-racking, but learning about your capabilities and talents is exciting. You will face challenges, such as getting lost, missing a bus or plane, and even food poisoning after a less-than-friendly meal. Overcoming these challenges helps you grow and build confidence as an independent traveler.

Inspiration is Everywhere

When traveling, everything will seem new and exciting; from medieval architecture to white sandy beaches, you will encounter jaw-dropping sceneries and friendly new cultures. Seeing these new people and the beauty of their country can feed into your inspiration and enlighten you on all that is out there to explore and enjoy. Some fun suggestions it to visit a local museum or art gallery or challenge yourself to try the different foods and traditional dishes from the place you’re visiting.

You May Find Love

The cliché saying goes, “you find love in the most unexpected places.” Traveling alone doesn’t mean that you must be alone. You would be surprised how many people find the love of their life when hiking through the alps, swimming on the beaches of the Adriatic, or having one too many shots of tequila in Mexico. Go into your adventure with an open mind and a willingness to try new things and meet new people. Who knows…maybe you won’t come back alone or at all.

As always, I want to hear about your experiences or how this inspires you to travel solo. My husband can't always be with me as a travel nurse, and I have learned more about myself since traveling solo. It has truly been a gift.
